Rehearsal Day and what we did in Lesson Time

We met up at 12 today to have a rehearsal until 2, in this rehearsal we made sure everyone knew what they were doing in their job roles, designed the set and lay it out (pictures below) and got the presenters (Emily, who was stepping in for the day and Tom, who will be presenting on the day) to say their lines and introduce the choir. I asked the choir to come in at 1 o'clock and they did- some cannot make the actual filming day but there are four people who can make the filming day- we have asked them if they can bring other people next week for the filming and they said they will try, however, I think four is a good number, just as long as we have a live performance to close the show.

For the OB at the end of the performance, we are going to be filming it out of the studio, at the church near the UCLan Library, we are going to use boom mics to pick up sound, the crew who are going to be outside with the choir are- Ethan, Dom and Holly. Below is an updated job role table including which individual needs to bring on the day of filming.

So we split the studio- just as planned so we could have the fashion show runway and the main presenters 'lounge' in different places. We are yet to have the Christmas tree, more presents and other festive things around the presenters part.

The runway is going to have the black curtain with some lighting, the piece of runway on the far left has now been moved so the stage makes a 'T' shape, this looks better and gives the models a place to stand while the presenters comment on their outfits.

This is the choir rehearsing.

And also the presenters rehearsing.

And lastly, here is a check list of items and equipment we need on the day and also the running order:

Arranging a filming day for VT's

Today we arranged over our messaging group on Facebook which days we are going to film our VT's on. We have decided to film our Market (Christmas gifts guide) VT on Wednesday 30th November at 5pm. Nick is going to book cameras and other gear out on Monday 28th. And we are going to be filming the Cooking VT in Blackpool at a pub in their kitchen as it is a good layout. A Risk Assessment and Recce will be done. The filming day for this VT will be Monday 5th December.

Sorting out the Performance

As a part of our show, we are going to have a live performance to close the show, they're going to sing a Christmas carol. I have contacted my friend who is on the Music Theatre course and he said he'd be happy to get a group together to perform, hopefully it all goes to plan and we can have a rehearsal with them next Thursday.

We have a group on facebook which I am using to contact the choir and update them on what's going on.

This was posted the day I got the choir together.

Running Order and Name Decision

I was unable to attend today's session so all was posted in the group chat we have on Facebook, we have now decided on a name which is going to be 'Good Morning UCLan', this may change over time however. We also went over the budget for the 'gift idea challenge' and listed our locations which are going to be the TV Studio here at uni, the Church near uni and a kitchen- we still need to decide who's kitchen is easier to access. We figured out what we needed props wise and how we want the set.

The running order is now fully done and we are going to be doing a rehearsal in next weeks session.
But for the rest of the week, my job is to find the act who is going to close our show, so a choir or a singer, I have a few ideas for this, I am going to email the UCLan Choir society and research choirs in Preston and also see if they'd like to team up with us. I also know a few people who study Music Theatre and they may be able to make a choir and sing for us.

The Idea (Version 2)

When we decided to merge groups it was initially hard to think of what we wanted to include in our show. Our original idea before we merged was to do a Christmas special of a show similar to the One Show and Lorraine and the other group wanted a Soccer AM themed show, their main topic was football.

When merging, we specified that we wanted to keep our Christmas special and still have our fashion show, cooking part and live entertainment at the end to close the show off, the other group agreed and said it was a good idea, we just needed to incorporate football in to it somehow. As for our review part, we decided to take that away and make it more in to a 'gift guide' this is a better feature in the show, I believe, as we can show the presenters out and about in the Preston markets and town trying to find gifts for under ten pounds and later on it can be seen on the show.

We then made a running plan and decided on the timing of each bit in the show, this is not yet finalised as we all need to get together again and see where we want to put other parts of the show and decide on how long they should be for.

Roles

As we have now merged groups, we had to re-do our roles. Below shows a list of who is doing what role. We picked roles by asking people what they wanted to do based on what they're comfortable on doing and their experience in the role and equipment you have to use in the role.

Producer/Director- Me and Sean decided we will each do a bit of both role as the producer and director work alongside.

Floor Managers- Ethan and Wada

Camera Operators- Nick, James, Kerys and Qaasim

Script and Auto-Que- Emily and Olivia

Graphics- Katie, Sarah and Xiao

Sound- Nancy and Mel

Vision Mixers- Sunny and Holly

Lighting and Set- Dom

Merging Groups

We have decided to merge our group with the other group in our class, this is so our team is stronger and so we have more people to fit in our roles. We talked about how we can combine our ideas together and have come to the decision of still using our Christmas special idea and to include their ideas, such as football and challenges as their TV show was going to be a 'Soccer AM' style show. We have given each individual in the group a role, we did this by asking who wants the role- and who has experience in the role so we can make the TV as best as we possibly can. We have created a Facebook messaging group so we can keep in contact with each other, this helps so we can post our ideas and communicate through it.

What are we going to use?

Lighting

We will be using gels on the studio lights (name the studio lights) this is to set a colour theme which we will decide on at a later date, gels are useful as they colour a set, they will specifically look good in the fashion section but we need to make sure that the set is not overly coloured because they cannot be changed half way through the show when we will go to the gadget section which is going to also be filmed live.

Communications

Our group have spoken about wanting to use a social media platform such as Twitter to show live interaction but we are not quite sure on how we could get it to work. Firstly, we will need to live stream/broadcast the show and secondly, we will need viewers who are interested enough to 'tweet' and 'hashtag' about our show.

TV Show Idea

For the idea for our TV show we are going to be making in the next couple of weeks. We all thought of this idea and incorporated all of our interests in to it, we think it will be a strong TV show, we are basically thinking of doing a Christmas Edition of a show where we will have a review section for Christmas gifts such as games, gadgets, apps to use etc.. (it will be live filmed in TV Studio), another bit we want to include is a Fashion Show inspired by 'This Morning' and 'Lorraine' where we will have 2 presenters, one who will inform the audience how much items of clothing are and where to get them from and one who will bounce off the other presenter. We were also thinking of having a VT on a simple guide on how to cook mince pies and also having people try them (this will obviously be pre recorded) and then to close the show and to create a more festive feel, we are thinking of getting a live choir to sing a carol or just even a solo artist to sing.

I emailed the idea to both of our lecturers and they seemed to like the idea:

Director- Me
Producer- (We still need to find one)
Graphics- Katie
Lighting- Dom
Sound- Nancy
Camera Ops- Nick, James
Researchers- Whole Group
Vision Mixer- Holly
Script- Emily
Floor Manager-

Above is a mind map of all of the ideas we came up with in class, some we aren't too keen on such as the app reviews as this will have to include a handheld device such as an iPhone or an iPad which may appear too small on camera and produce a glare. It would be good to film peoples reactions to the apps they are using.

'The distribution of audio and video content to an audience via any electronic mass communications medium.'

Early Broadcasters:

BBC, PSB, Lord Reith/Rethian Values, Vulgar Commercial (ITV, 1955)

'Channel 4' came out in 1982, they brought content in and broadcasted them.

1980- 'Sky Sports' suffered massive losses until it merged with BSB to form 'British Satellite Broadcasting.'

2005- 'YouTube'- each month, more than 1.3 billion people watch more than 7 billion hours of video.
